The Invitation

One story, from the garden to glory.

The Bible can feel like sixty-six separate books, read in pieces and never quite joined. It is not. It is one story, and it has a center. This fall, The Valley Study Center of Abingdon, over six evenings, will walk that story from the garden to the cross to the city where God dwells with His people, and see how all of it comes home in Christ.

This is not a class for scholars. Nor will it be a breeze. You will be challenged. If you have never opened the Bible in your life, come, you are welcome here. If you have read it for fifty years, come anyway, there is a fresh view from this hill. We will take the long view together, one evening at a time, and let the whole of Scripture speak with one voice.

What We’ll Walk Through

Six evenings, one thread.

Week 1
Creation and Covenant
A good world, a broken covenant, and the first promise of a Redeemer.
Week 2
Abraham and the Promise
One man, one promise, and a blessing meant for every nation.
Week 3
Moses, Exodus, and the Law
Redemption by the blood of a lamb, and a people given God’s law.
Week 4
David and the Kingdom
A throne promised forever, and a people taught to long for the King.
Week 5
Christ the Fulfillment
Every thread of the story gathered into one person.
Week 6
The Church and the Consummation
The story carried to its end, and all things made new.
Who It’s For

Come as you are, and bring your Bible.

This course is for anyone in the community, members of our church, for friends from neighboring churches, and for anyone in Abingdon or the Tri-Cities area who has ever wanted to see how the whole Bible fits together. No prior study is assumed and none is required. A printed course notebook with your name on it is provided. It’s yours to keep and take home. Those completing all 6 sessions will receive a certificate of completion suitable for framing.
